Couples Intensive Series & Couples Therapy

About Couples Intensive Series

Dr. Patton provides couples with the opportunity to participate in a series of intensive sessions which have been specifically designed to promote noticeable progress within relationships.


These sessions will focus on skill-building and psychoeducation on many important topics which commonly effect couples who are seeking therapy.  Each intensive will consist of a structured format which will allow couples to make progress on goals and to leave sessions feeling accomplished and productive.   


Each intensive session is approximately 2 hours in length.  However, sessions are tailored to fit each couple's needs, and can range anywhere from 2 hours to 3 hours each.  Couple's intensive services can be provided either in office or in the couple's home.  

Topics Addressed in Couples Intensives

  • Increase effective communication skills
  • Become a better listener
  • Provide more constructive criticism
  • Learn how to better accept feedback 
  • Learn how to fight fair
  • Recognize signs and techniques of unfair fighting
  • Establish healthy boundaries
    • Understanding boundaries
    • Roles and functions they provide
    • Explore importance of childhood shame 

Discernment Counseling

Discernment counseling assists couples who are questioning whether they should stay together or divorce.  Discernment counseling uses specific techniques and a structured format to help couples choose between three paths and to provide the couple assistance on the path that they choose.

The first discernment counseling session is 2 hours in length and subsequent sessions are 90 minutes in length.

Traditional Couple's Therapy Sessions

Dr. Patton also provides traditional couple's therapy services.  However, completion of couples intensives are recommended prior to beginning traditional couple's therapy as it will provide the couple a foundation to more effectively communicate and work through issues throughout the therapy process.

Relationship counseling can be beneficial to couples who are looking to strengthen their emotional connection, throughout all stages of their relationship. Therapy sessions provide a supportive atmosphere to discuss issues and develop solutions to better strengthen your relationship.
