Codependency

What is Codependency?

Codependency has yet to be classified as an official disorder. Codependency is not a diagnosis but a description of a personality type. Oftentimes individuals who have a codependent personality style are labeled with many diagnoses including OCD, Bipolar Disorder, Addiction issues, Anxiety, and Depression.

What does Codependency look and feel like?

  •  Low self-worth- never ending people pleasing; overextending self.
  • Repression- fear of speaking up in case there is rejection, judgement, or punishment.
  • Obsessive- mind cannot and will not stop ruminating and rationalizing.
  • Controlling- believes everything is their responsibility to fix.
  • Denial- don’t see what the real problems are.
  • Dependency- develop unhealthy attachments, have a desire to attach to unavailable individuals, which then creates insecurities.
  • Poor communication- can’t say or don’t know what they feel.
  • Weak/poor boundaries- may let others manipulate them.
  • Lack of trust- can’t relax in a relationship; hyper-vigilant.
  • Anger- unexpressed, but constant.
  • Sex problems- inability to enjoy sex; may have unwanted sex; may lack desire or drive for sex.

What typically creates Codependency?

Codependency patterns and formation typically begin in childhood and adolescence.  Individuals who deal with codependency typically have dealt with many or all of the below situations in their lives:

  • Addiction
  • Abuse
  • Trauma
  • Toxic Shaming
  • Guilt
  • Attatchment issues
  • Chaotic or Unstable Households

Our codependency workshops focus on providing clients with psychoeducation on codependency and relationships.  Clients will learn skills which they can immediately implement in their lives for lasting change and growth.

Unlike our codependency groups, these workshops will focus solely on education and skill-building exercises, and will not require participants to share personal experiences, or personally be experiencing codependency issues.  These workshops would be beneficial to parents, significant others, professionals, and anyone who is interested in learning more about this pattern of behavior.

Individual Sessions

Individual Sessions

Individual therapy sessions will target not only the current issues and challenges clients may be facing, but also examine the foundation and origins of codependency so clients will develop a deeper understanding of themselves and their psyche.
